Overview
Volunteering is a great way to make a difference. Volunteering at the DI makes a difference in how we serve our clients. Your volunteer commitment makes it possible for us to provide a broader range of services and support to our clients. You are the difference between a meal that is just food for the belly, and a meal that nourishes the heart, mind, spirit and body.

Meal Sponsorship
A hungry man is not a free man.”
Adlai E. Stevenson
Every day we serve approximately 3500 meals (breakfast, lunch, dinner, 2 snacks). Food service is one of our biggest costs and it is an area where every Calgarian can make a difference.
There are a lot of areas where you can volunteer and make your contribution count. We invite you to check out the opportunities here on the website or contact our volunteer co-ordinators at 403-699-8272 or 403-699-8277.

All our volunteers are provided a comprehensive training program to familiarize them with the DI as well as our clients and to help them feel comfortable in this environment. Areas covered in the training include a tour of our facility, an overview of how the DI operates and what we do as well as discussion of boundaries and client/volunteer interactions. Our goal in the training program is to ensure you feel safe and comfortable volunteering here at the DI.
To ensure your volunteer experience is fulfilling and worthwhile we welcome your feedback and invite you to contribute any ideas you have that would improve our volunteer relations, and our services. Please contact the Volunteer Coordinators at 403-699-8272 or 403-699-8277 to find out how you can make a difference, or complete the volunteer application online.

Volunteers Make A Difference
Volunteering at the DI is rewarding and exciting. You can volunteer on the frontlines, working directly with clients, or you can volunteer in other areas, like our hygiene office or as a kitchen helper or clothing sorter.

My son, who is 13 years old and myself would like to volunteer some time at your drop in centre. How do I go about this? I would love to speak to someone over the phone if I can. My # is 403-333-xxxx. Is my son too young to help out? I would be accompanying him everytime we volunteer.
Thank you so much for your time.
Sincerely,
Anita Chalmers

Hey Harry! I’m glad to hear you’re doing well. So often when people leave, we never hear from them and always wonder how they are doing. Thanks for letting us know. Great to hear from you and congrats on the condo!
